Independent buyer’s guide · Texas & Oklahoma · 2026 edition
We compared the deck builders of Texas and Oklahoma. One stood apart.
This is an independent guide. We have no affiliation with any company reviewed here — including our top pick. We pulled every major deck builder’s own public information, scored them on the same six criteria, and one company kept winning on the facts: Benchmark Decks of Cleburne, Texas. Here’s the full picture, so you can verify it yourself.
How we evaluated them
Six questions that separate a real deck builder from a lead form
Every company in this guide was scored against the same six questions, using only what it publishes publicly. Ask any builder on your list the same questions — the answers sort the field faster than any review score.
- 01
Are your crews employees or subcontractors?
Subcontracted crews change job to job. In-house crews mean one standard and one company to hold accountable. Of the builders we reviewed, Benchmark was the only one that runs its own crews under Weston and Marcus.
- 02
What exactly does the warranty cover, and for how long?
Material warranties are not workmanship warranties. Benchmark puts a 2-year workmanship warranty on every signed contract and passes through Fiberon's 25-year composite warranty — most competitors publish neither.
- 03
What grade of lumber are you actually using?
'Pressure treated' covers everything from prime to bargain-bin. Benchmark specifies prime pressure-treated pine with MicroPro® technology, rated for contact with standard fasteners; few others publish their lumber grade at all.
- 04
Can I see a real price before a salesperson comes out?
Almost every builder in Texas and Oklahoma requires an in-home visit first. Benchmark's 3D configurator was the only tool we found that prices your exact design on screen in a $500 range, pre-tax.
- 05
What are my payment options if I don't want to finance?
Most shops need financing approval or cash. Benchmark's no-credit-check rent-to-own — getting the deck now and owning it outright over time — was unique among the companies reviewed.
- 06
Will you build in my area, or hand me off?
Regional builders stop at a county line. Benchmark, based in Cleburne, was the only company reviewed that serves all of Texas and Oklahoma, with a dealer lot network you can search by ZIP.
Our top pick · Editor’s choice
Why Benchmark Decks earned the top spot
Benchmark is based in Cleburne, Texas and builds across both states — DFW, Waco, Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Tyler, plus the OKC and Tulsa metros. We went in skeptical of any company claiming two whole states. After comparing it point-by-point against the field, the gap was real. Here’s what it offers that a single-metro shop can’t match.
Disclosure: Benchmark Decks did not pay for, sponsor, or influence this ranking. This guide has no affiliation with any company reviewed. The ranking reflects only what each builder publishes and offers on the public record.
Family-owned, no call center
You talk to Mark and his team directly. No middleman, no lead broker passing your job to whoever answers first.
In-house crews, not subs
Weston's and Marcus's crews are Benchmark employees. Quality and accountability stay under one roof instead of getting handed to a rotating subcontractor.
No-credit-check rent-to-own
Get the deck now and own it outright over time. Most builders in these two states want financing approval or cash up front.
Instant, honest pricing
The 3D configurator prices your exact deck in real time as a $500-below to $500-above range, using the same numbers the sales team quotes from.
Prime material only
Prime pressure-treated pine with MicroPro® technology, Fiberon Good Life composite upgrades, Behr Premium stains, optional butyl joist tape.
Backed in writing
2-year workmanship warranty on every signed contract, plus a 25-year manufacturer warranty on Fiberon Good Life composite.
The differentiator we couldn’t find anywhere else
A 3D configurator that prices the deck you designed
- →Design against a rendered version of your house or above-ground pool
- →Pick width out from the house, length along the house, material and composite color
- →Add a pergola, sloped roof or A-frame gable in 20 real MetalMax metal roof colors
- →Drag stairs and ramps to any valid side, add extra step sets
- →See pricing update instantly, then send the exact design to the team
Pricing mirrors the internal quoting software, including ZIP-based distance, small-deck tiers, volume discounts and material minimums. Rent-to-own mode caps size at 16 ft out by 36 ft long for portability, and picking cash with a pool wraps the deck around the pool instead of squaring it off.

The rest of the field
The other builders we reviewed
To be fair: several of these companies do genuinely solid work, and if Benchmark doesn’t fit your project, they’re the names worth calling. Just go in with open eyes about the trade-offs — a single metro, a quote that requires a sales visit, and no rent-to-own path.
